Darren Dutchyshen, the longtime television sports anchor with Canada’s The Sports Network, died on May 15, 2024. He was 57. He died with his closest loved ones by his side. The Dutchyshen family said Thursday that his quick and clever humor lasted until the very end, sharing many jokes, most of them good and all of them inappropriate.
Every day, his passion for sports served as a reminder of why we enjoy them. Dutchyshen started his sportscasting career at STV in Saskatoon before moving on to IMTV in Dauphin, Manitoba. He hosted ITV’s Sports Night in Edmonton for seven years as well.

Dutchyshen got his initial job as a sportscaster at STV in Saskatoon. That was then followed by working at IMTV in Dauphin, Manitoba.

Dutchyshen started at TSN in 1995 by hosting weekend versions of SportsDesk. He additionally dedicated seven years to hosting Sports Night on ITV in Edmonton. Several Canadian sports media personalities, including TSN colleague James Duthie, shared online messages in honor of Dutchyshen.
Dutchyshen was involved in the network’s CFL coverage, in addition to hosting Olympic Prime Time on TSN for both the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games and London 2012 Summer Games.

Dutchyshen took to Twitter in 2021 to reveal his cancer diagnosis for the first time. This made him significantly decrease his on-air responsibilities at TSN.
Darren’s immense personality, combined with his exceptional humor and charismatic energy, positioned him as a talented broadcaster who effortlessly resonated with audiences. His passion served as a daily reminder of our love for sports. Darren was a significant friend to all of us at TSN, and we will greatly miss him.
After starting at TSN as the host of weekend editions of SportsDesk and CFL Live, Dutchyshen soon became a regular presence at the Sportscentre desk for almost three decades. He frequently appeared on television alongside co-hosts Rod Smith and Jennifer Hedger.
His family told TSN that he died while being surrounded by his closest loved ones.
