The people with her, including another doctor, were unable to find a signal to call for medical assistance. She was declared deceased at Badian District Hospital.
Meg Haugh, a 26-year-old woman from Ballintemple, Cork, was out exploring with friends and fellow adrenaline junkies when she unexpectedly fell ill on May 2, according to The Sun Star newspaper in the Philippines.
While exploring the breathtaking but difficult landscapes of Badian’s canyons, waterfalls, and streams, the group was jumping and swimming when Meg started to feel unwell. Because of their isolated location, it was difficult to contact emergency services quickly.

It was known that the group she was traveling with had trouble getting in touch with emergency services when Ms. Haugh became sick because of a weak signal in the area.
How did Meg Haugh Die?
Although faced with difficulties, multiple team members, including a physician, quickly responded to provide Meg with medical assistance. Emergency responders took approximately one hour to arrive because of the weak signal reception in the area. According to the Irish Mirror, Meg was pronounced dead after being quickly taken to the Badian District Hospital.
In an interview with The Sun Star, Clydiejun Baratbate, from the Badian Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), emphasized the challenges of communication in the region: “The signal reception is poor in this area as you need to go uphill to get a signal.”
