Stephanie Sparks, a former United States and college golf All-American The Curtis Cup player who went on to co-host a number of programs on Golf Channel and the reality show “Big Break” passed away on April 13, 2024 at the age of 50. Spark died in Orlando, where he most recently resided.
Injury hampered the end to her collegiate career in Durham and continued as she got professional. She played a single season on the LPGA Tour before retiring. But golf remains a significant part of her life.

Mary Stephanie Sparks born on July 18th, 1973, she was an American golfer and on-air personality at The Golf Channel. Steph excelled as an amateur golfer and co-hosted #BigBreak for seven seasons.
“Many of you probably know Steph as the serve as co-host of #Big-Break. She earned an All-American while playing for Duke. After college, she competed on the Futures Tour, winning the North and South Women’s Amateurs in 1992, as well as the Western and Eastern Amateurs in 1993.
She also conducted some on-camera reporting during tournaments. During her professional career, Sparks authored player journals for Golfweek, which provided an inside glimpse at tour life.
Tom Abbott of the Golf Channel co-hosted the popular “Big Break” series with Sparks for seven seasons. Abbott, who is on the broadcast crew for this week’s Chevron Championship, praised Sparks’ work ethic.
“She had been playing golf professionally herself,” he explained, “so she knew what it was like to be among the participants, and she wants them to win. She sort of rode their feelings while we were conducting the act.
According to Sparks’ memorial page at Kepner Funeral Homes, she was an advocate for hospice care in her final years and donated to Libby’s Legacy Breast Cancer Foundation and the Barber Fund in Orlando.
